Aloha had the real potential to be a successful movie. With a star cast of some of my favourite actors – Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams – and an uplifting, happy trailer, I was excited to watch this film. However, the plot of the storyline was a complete flop.
The central character Brian – played by Bradley Cooper – is a former pilot in Afghanistan but is now a military contractor. He is sent to Hawaii to speak with the natives about using some of the land for a satellite launch site. On the trip he meets up with an ex-girlfriend Tracy (Rachel McAdams) and also starts a relationship with Allison – played by Emma Stone.
The film contained no gripping substance. It might be a nice movie to watch if you’re hungover or tired, or maybe if you just have it playing in the background, but it’s not a captivating storyline. There were also various scenes that were so unconvincing and distorted from reality.
There were a few small positive details in the film though. The setting of Hawaii was incredible, very aesthetically pleasing. The love story subplot had a real potential to be carried out well, but this was not well explored.
I would not recommend this movie to watch. The outstanding cast and beautiful setting were completely let down by the poor writing and storyline.
I give this 2 out of 5 stars.
